This is not a photo of Chief, but a Generic picture of a malamute.

Gorgeous male Malamute needs home now!

Chief is a 1 year old black and white husky female with 2 different color eyes.  Seems to like other dogs even if small she just wags her tail.  A bit timid but been through a lot.  Saw her attacked by another dog and she went submissive.  Wasn't hurt.  Needs person that knows young huskies, do not believe she has had any formal training. Her current name is Sunrise.

LOVING LOLA LOSING HOME & FAMILY TO FORECLOSURE. PERFECT FAMILY DOG! ((Banning, CA)

Gorgeous 7-year old spayed female Golden Retriever-mix  Lola must find a new home quickly.  Her family, who has fallen on hard times due to the economic downturn in California, cannot  take her with them when they downsize.  While Lola may not realize right now how limited her time is with them, we at HART do, and want her to find a new family to love before it's too late.    There is a lot to recommend this big boned beauty:  She is affectionate with everyone.  She's good with  cats.  Gets along great with other dogs.  And adores children.  Gentle and loving she is also huggable, as illustrated in one of the photos attached.  She is Housebroken.  Used to a doggy door.  Lola is a gentle soul in a large body (She's 90 plus pounds). A perfect lady!

Please contact Briana at eikocarol@msn.com.

Shomer, a neutered male Shiloh Shepherd is headed to the West LA shelter this morning after his temporary caregiver could no longer keep him.  Orphaned when his beloved guardian fell ill and relocated out of the state, friends and relatives have been caring for the kind hearted Shepherd until today when Shomer's luck ran out.

All who know this 70+ pound dog describe him as sweet, friendly, well behaved. Housebroken.  Good with other dogs.  Great with children.  He is a gentle dog who would make a terrific companion in practically any situation.

When a kind shelter worker notified us about Viking, she described his forgiving nature and wonderful smile. She told us of his proud, noble head and beautiful, soulful eyes...Then, she told us that Viking had endured some sort of horrific and long term neglect that had left his once-beautiful coat with permanent damage...

Photos of Viking made tears come to our eyes because we see all of the beautiful qualities that the shelter worker described beneath an exterior that some uncaring person had created. Viking has bald, leathery patches of skin dotting most of his body--the aftermath of YEARS of untreated skin conditions. It hurts our hearts to think about how much pain he suffered and how much his skin must have burned from open wounds. But looking deeper, we can see the heart of a champion, the spirit of a survivor, and the proud nobility that only a German Shepherd can convey. We knew we had to help Viking and we were proud to be the rescue group that would step up for this deserving dog.

Viking will be treated by our vets this week and we will get an accurate diagnosis of what he needs, probably beginning with some soothing oatmeal baths and some great nutrition. We are seeking sponsors to help us offset the costs of what we suspect will be a battery of tests to get a baseline reading on his overall health. Can you pledge a donation in any amount to help us help Viking get the care that he needs? Simply click on DONATE and you can send your gift via credit card, or you can mail your check to our posted address.

Viking will be available for adoption once we have a better idea of what his care needs will be. Obviously, we are seeking a true, dedicated animal lover to help him find the Love that he has never had previously...someone to help make up for all of the heartache and pain of the past...someone who sees what we see in him beneath the surface.

A pet detective who was on the hunt for a missing dog came upon Denver huddled at the side of a roadway. She thought he had been hit by a car because he didn't move when she approached him. In truth, he WANTED her to help him. Poor Denver was so thirsty and hungry and he had such a bad ear infection that he couldn't hold his balance.

Because she knows all too well what it's like when someone is missing a beloved pet, the detective took Denver to the local animal shelter with the high hopes that someone was looking for him and would retrieve him. Sadly, days came and went, and no one came looking for Denver. In true rescuer's spirit, the kind person then contacted GSROC and when we said we could help, she bailed Denver out of the shelter, got him groomed up nicely, and drove him all the way from LA to OC so that he could be safe and sound! Denver's guardian angels were working overtime!

Denver is now safe and sound and recovering from his ear infection. He is a handsome and very sweet boy who is delighted to get attention and affection. As we learn more about Denver, we will update his profile and share photos!

This adorable little guy is Sailor, a purebred Jack Russell Terrier rescued from the animal shelter.  He's missing one eye and mostly blind in the other, but he more than makes up for it with his big, loving heart!  Sailor is about 5 years old and his disability doesn't bother him one bit - he gets around just fine, thank you.  Feisty like all Jack Russells, he's generally good with other dogs, although he may be possessive about his food and toys.  All this sweet baby needs is a quiet, adult home, with someone to love him, cuddle him, and he wouldn't turn down a biscuit every once in awhile!  Please think about adding this darling boy to your loving home...it'll be the best thing you ever do..

Ava is a 6 month old pure bred female German Shepherd. Last fall, on a whim I went with my daughter to look at an adult GSD advertised in the newspaper. When I got to the big, beautiful house I saw a skinny, jumpy Mom dog running around the backyard with her puppies. There was one puppy who wasn't running and playing with the others. It was dark and it had just rained. My teenage daughter walked through the backyard and picked up this little puppy with a deformed muddy head. The man said that the mom dog attacked the puppy when she was eating and the pup approached her. The pup was lethargic and just melted into my daughters arms. The man was very unconcerned about the injured pup and said she would be fine and didn't need to see the vet. I could see the pain and misery on this poor animals face. I offered him $100 for her and he agreed. I also bought her Mother as well knowing that she needed a new home as well. I had no where to put these dogs and knew my h! usband would not be happy. Being avid Gray's Anatomy watchers we named her Ava after the character who had to have her face rebuilt on the show. We took Ava to the vet the next day. Once all the mud was washed off her head we were able to see a huge puss filled abscess. It was trying to heal but it was a mess of scar tissue and infection. My vet rushed her back into emergency surgery and ended up cutting away a large amount of skin and fur from her forehead. She stitched it backup and Ava looked like a franken-baby. She the cutest round puppy belly and this horribly mangled head. We were amazed when two days after surgery she started running and playing with our other dogs. We had never seen her with any energy! A few days after surgery we noticed her diahhrea was not going away. We first chalked it up to a change in dogfood, but quickly realized it was something more. We took her back to the vet for a fecal test and was told she had the severest case of giardia my vet! had ever seen. My vet stated "I showed everyone in the office! because you don't see test like that, even in the text books." We put her on Giardia medication and IV's for dehydration. Her wounds slowly began to heal when I noticed she wasn't very co-ordinated. She often stumbled and fell over. We took her back to the vet. She STILL had Giardia. The vet said to give her time, with the type of injury she had to her head she may have had brain damage. Her co-ordination began to get better but she was never at the level other puppies her age were at. She was always a happy dog though. She slept on the floor of my daughters room and knew when we let her in from outside where she slept. She would run to her bed and lay down and look at us like she won some type of race. Months later her Giardia was not fully cured. We tried many different types of medications and just recently she finished her full vaccination series of the Giardia vaccine. She is still developmentally behind but is a very sweet, happy dog who is eager to please. She occasionally f! alls and lets out a yelp but she is catching up. We were recently told that severe Giardia can also cause developmental delay. Ava is an amazing survival story. She needs a patient person who will work with her and teach her doggy life skills. Anyone interested in Ava can call me,

One of German Shepherd Rescuers found Thummper staggering down the sidewalk in obvious pain after being hit by a car. He was rushed to our vet, where he was given much needed care and attention. It appeared as though Thummper may have been on his own for some time prior to the accident. Unfortunately, he did not have a collar, tag or microchip. Efforts were made to determine if he had a family, but no one responded.

Thummper injured his hip during his accident, but thankfully, did not break any bones. After a couple of days of treatment at our vet, he was gave him a clean bill of health and sent off to our care to recuperate.

Initially, Thummper's injury made it difficult for him to walk comfortably, but he now walks with much greater ease and much less discomfort. He is approximately 7 years old and weighs between 50 & 55 lbs. Thummper has a very sweet and calm disposition. He loves everyone and would love nothing better than to curl up next to you on the couch and continue his convalescence. Thummper is currently in boarding and would surely prefer the warmth and security of a stable home. He has tremendous best-friend potential - could that special person be you?

For more information on Thummper, please email tpeters@pinnacleone.com

Miss Bonnie used have her own person and was very happy. Unfortunately, Miss Bonnie's owner became ill and could no longer take care of her. She doesn't understand what happened to her world. She is a very loving dog that loves to have her tummy rubbed. Miss Bonnie doesn't want much but she would love to spend her days and night just hanging out and sleeping next to her person.
Could you be Miss Bonnie's new person?

Lady Bear is such a sweet and gentle senior girl. She is great with other dogs, and just needs a quiet home to live out the remainder of her life. Knowing how keenly she sees and hears, you'd be surprised to know that she is already 12 years old.

She came to us when her elderly owner went into a long term care facility and could no longer take care of her.

Lady Bear has very low back hips; and has some difficulty walking, but appears to not be in pain. She is currently taking Rimadayl. Lady Bear still has a great appetite, and is house trained.

This handsome big guy is Kodiak. Kodi to his friends... Kodi got his name because he is a big lovable bear. GSROC received dozens of calls and emails about a big, beautiful white German Shepherd in a very high kill shelter. As you can see from his pictures Kodi ADORES everyone.

He gave kisses to the vet as he was being examined, as if to say "Thank you for helping me" He gave kisses to his rescuer and anyone else who came close enough. He was a huge hit with some small children in the vets waiting room and laid down to play with a 6 pound terrier.

He has such a wonderful temperament we are certain he would live very well with cats. Kodi could stand to lose a few pounds, and we are working on that. Kodi seems to have been neglected as his fur was filthy and quite matted, but GSROC sent him to the Doggie Spa for a day of beauty and he's a new dog.

Kodi is a very mellow guy and more football watching couch potato than jogging partner. Kodi will stay right by your side and just wants to please. Kodi loves to go for car rides and is a perfect gentleman while doing so. He is also a joy to walk. If you didn't see him on the other end, you wouldn't even know he was there, he stays perfectly by your side. He's got a little arthritis in his hips (but who doesn't?) but he doesn't let this slow him down.

Kodi is about 5-6 years old and loves to cuddle.

Jello is one of our Hong Kong imports. When some horrible people threw her off a fishing boat a good Samaritan went to her aid. From there, our incredible volunteers in Hong Kong arranged for her safe passage to the US.

Jello came all the way to America for a new life. Her previous life in Hong Kong was not a kind one. She was discarded like trash when she was no longer wanted. Jello knows that we will find her a wonderful, loving, devoted family now that she is safe and sound with GSROC. She is spayed, vaccinated, free of parasites, microchipped and ready to find someone special.

We are grateful to Jello's amazing sponsors for making it possible for this precious creature to have the life that she deserves.

Joker is 11 years old and his owner has died.  The house that he lived in was not maintained and he can not stay there.  He is a big dog, half wolf and half shepherd.  He is very sweet and very nice to a 9 year old child and to female dogs.  He is used to being outside and inside.  He likes to wonder in and out.  His partner died last year, her name was Honey, and she was his sister.  He likes it when you say where's Honey?  He tilts his head and gives kisses!!

He comes with food and medical care for as long as he lives.  This was his owner's wishes.

Doshi is a 9 year old pure bred Miniature American Eskimo.  She has lots of energy!  She is 18 lbs and is covered with soft, gorgeous, white hair and has beautiful brown eyes that will make your heart melt.

She loves people!  She will sit by your feet and love you unconditionally!  She loves to be around other dogs as well and children.  He has been around  a toddler for the past 3 years.  She has not been around cats much.  She is an indoor dog and loves to play outside!  She doesn't bite at all, but does bark at passer by's when at the door.  She is house trained and spayed too.  She goes to the doctor regularly and is current on all shots.  She also is always groomed and teeth are cleaned.

Unfortunately her owner just recently divorced and travels most of the week, every week.  Doshi has to be boarded most of the time, so her owner wants to find her a home that is best for her and be a part of a kind, loving and understanding home.

Lina is 10 years old.  She is once again with us because her owner recently died.  Lina is a nice girl who is looking for a family who will give her a nice home until the end.  Lina is nice to all people, has nice house manners, is potty and crate trained, loves to go for rides in the car, and she loves kitties that love dogs.  Lina is slow in mobility, but that doesn’t stop her from chasing a running critter!  She LOVES that.  While she may get along with another dog, she does not want to be bothered by them.

Lina has spinal and back problems, which slow her down, but she is clearly a happy dog.  She enjoys going for short walks, and she loves to roll onto her back to scratch it for minutes at a time.

We are looking for someone special who will give Lina a comfortable life for as long as she has.

If you are able to help Lina, please call our 24 hour phone number (GSRNC: 1-866-728-3473) and ask to speak with Dez or JJ.
Lollie is a beautiful, affectionate, well mannered older female GSD.  She is house trained, rides well in the car and loves to go for short walks during which she carefully checks out the interesting smells and objects along the way.  She is superb with other dogs.  She alarm barks appropriately when people come to the door, but accepts them readily when introduced.  She may take a few weeks to strongly bond with her new family, but when she does, she will be a faithful companion.  She used to be able to stay alone for reasonable lengths of time, but recently has started barking when left alone for 12 hours or more.   As with many of us senior citizens, Lollie has some arthritis in her rear end which is being treated with pain medicine and glucosimine. <>Lollie’s ideal home would be with a family in which someone is home most of the time, a family that will provide her companionship, moderate exercise, and lots and lots of love.  She could easily live with another dog, but it would need to be one that did not play rambunctiously.  A home with lots of steep stairs would not be good for Lollie.  Lollie is being fostered on the San Francisco Peninsula.

If you are able to help  Lollie, please call our 24 hour phone number (GSRNC:

Freedom is a male German Shepherd who is about 10 years old and in need of a good home. I have had my dog Freedom for about 9 years and unfortunately I had to move to a condo and we don't have the space needed for this beautiful energetic dog.

Freedom understands basic commands like sit, stay and lay down and is very comfortable with other animals. He has lived with other dogs big and small as well as cats and guinea pigs with no problem at all. He is primarily black with a little brown around the ankles. Every person who meets Freedom is amazed when they learn he is ten years old because he still has the energy of a five year old.

Freedom is neutered and is a completely healthy dog. This handsome boy loves people and enjoys playing fetch outside. He is house broken and is comfortable sleeping both indoors and outdoors. Freedom does well with little children.

To learn more about Freedom please contact: Damian Sandholm at (925) 698-6964 or snackshack40@yahoo.com
Lady has lived with us for the last seven years, but we must find a new home for her now. Lady is a very pretty, 11 year old female German Shepherd and weighs about 100 lbs. She really is happiest when she is with her people.

Lady becomes excited when greeting strangers, but calms down quickly. Her favorite game is tug and pull. She is fun loving and playful, but has little interest in playing ball. Lady graduated from basic obedience classes and is good with children. As a senior dog, she will limp slightly from hip pain, but this not always present.

On leash Lady can be protective on a walk, but off leash at the dog park she is friendly and quiet. No cats for Lady because she will chase them. We feel that the best home for this pretty girl will be one that has someone at home most of the time. Lady will make a lovely companion dog.

Critically ill guardian and his family seek help re-homing loving chocolate lab-mix and shepherd-mix dogs – (Long Beach, CA)

The late stage cancer-stricken guardian of 6 year old Hunter, a neutered male shepherd-lab and Dessa, a spayed female 7 year old chocolate lab-mix, not only faces rigorous “last effort” treatment for his illness, but the painful reality that he no longer has the strength to care for the dogs he has loved since rescuing them as puppies.

Hopeful the canine rescue community will network and find Hunter and Dessa a place to live happily, either together or separately, this guardian and his close-knit family are appealing for help.

Hunter is about 90 pounds; most likely shepherd-lab mix. He’s a high energy dog who benefits from routine, consistent exercise, including trail walking, ball throwing and runs with his person.  Dessa is a chocolate lab-pit mix, about 60 pounds.  While less active, she enjoys people attention. She gets along well with and plays nicely with a family member’s small dogs.  Both dogs are housebroken, mindful and at one time leash-trained.

If you can help Hunter and Dessa find a new home (or homes), please call

562-343-1256 and ask for Hailey.

Grannie is an 11 - 14 years old female boxer/American Staffordshire mix.  She is spayed and up to date on shots.  She is approximately 60 lbs.  She is in very good health, has lots of energy, but has some arthritis. She was rescued her from the pound.  She's a older girl with much spunk.  A great girl, she's just looking for a warm home for her last years.   A very cool dog. Comes with a "Dog Back" guarantee and free food and medical, if needed.  Grannie needs to be the only dog and does not get along with cats.

Lobo is about 6 years old and he is neutered. He is a sweet guy who has spent most of his life in the backyard. He has a beautiful chestnut coat and a black muzzle. Lobo has been raised with children and he loves them. He also likes to play with big dogs but he does not enjoy small dogs or cats. Lobo is a very calm and easy-going guy who likes to go for walks and get back scratches.

Rita is a lovely girl who is about 6 years old. She is spayed and has a beautiful light tan colored coat. She has spent most of her life in the backyard and it would be great to find a home where she could be inside too. Rita has been raised with children and she loves to play with them and with other big dogs. She does not enjoy small dogs or cats. Rita is playful but not hyper. She loves to play fetch and to go for walks. She also enjoys back scratches and attention. Lobo and Rita are best friends and they would love to find a forever home together but it is not essential.

Charming, Obedient, Senior Queensland needs a home.  Kids' allergies forcing give-up.

Nala is a sweet, well-trained, healthy, spayed 10 year old Queensland Heeler (Australian Cattle).  She was rescued at age 2 from a local pound before children came along.  Unfortunately the children are allergic to her.  Nala is most an indoor dog. She is totally housebroken and "can hold it" for many hours.  She does walk on a leash but tends to pull.  She does not herd or nip.  She tolerates other dogs once she gets used to them but is initially aggressive.  She has never been to a dog park. She does not have any health problems.  She is very gentle with children but does "not play". She is not fond of cats. She can jump a 5 foot fence.  She does fine in the car.  She enjoys walks but does not require them frequently as long as she has a place to roam.  She has a mellow temperament.  She rarely barks.  She weights 42 lbs.  Ventura County.

There is an area known as the Marshland where homeless people live. Mr. Ford (a homeless man) and his beloved companion Little Guy thought they came upon some good luck. A store owner was discarding Alpo canned dog food that was part of the tainted recall. Instead of telling Mr. Ford what was going on, he gave the food to him knowing it could possibly make Little Guy very sick. The next day a Forensic Officer was called to the Marshland area and found Little Guy and his caretaker, both very sick. Mr. Ford refused medical treatment but agreed to get help for his beloved companion. The Forensic Officer called Animal Control and instead of taking Little Guy to the Animal Shelter, these kind Samaritans took him to the Vet for treatment.

Little Guy's caretaker and loyal companion came to see him a few times and each time he cried and wept. He slept in the field near the Vet Hospital so he could be nearby. He even offered his backpack and the little bit of money he had to help Little Guy get the treatment he needed. After a few visits Mr. Ford disappeared. We suspect that he has since passed away but the Forensic Officer continues to look for him.

It is obvious Little Guy was very well-loved. We're still learning more about our homeless furkid but so far we've been told he's good with other dogs, very social around people and doesn't exhibit any negative behaviors.

Little Guy is finally healthy and ready to leave the Vet Hospital and find his forever home.

If you're interested in learning more about him, please fill out the on-line application and/or contact JOHNANDEBHANCOCK@aol.com
DUKE and DUCHESS are a loving brother and sister who need a new home, as their person is dying of cancer.  She has an estimated 2 months left to live, and is very concerned about their future. It is obvious that they sense something is terribly wrong.

These siblings are 2 years old; a mixture of German Shepherd, Keeshond and Husky.  At least that’s what we think!  Whatever genetic makeup they have, it includes the ‘love’ and ‘cuddle’ ones as well!

Both are housebroken, and love to go for walks just as much as they love lying at your feet.  A snooze in the sun is a welcome diversion from the stresses of not barking much, not digging holes and always being ready to give a kiss.  They are perfectly healthy, have all their shots and are altered.  Each dog weighs about 40 lbs.

Duke and Duchess's caregivers would love to find them a home together so they help each other grieve, but if they have to separate them in order to find them a loving family they will.

If you can give Duke and/or Duchess a loving home, please contact Kristi at:
818- 480-8149.

I'm Sammie, a 7 year old pom! Just because I have some issues doesn't mean I'm not adoptable. It is going to take a special someone to "get me", I know. But I am so darn adorable, and funny, and just want to love you. I admit, I have a couple health issues, but no one's perfect and I far make up for it with all my affection and loyalty!! Just give me a toy and be by my side, and I will love you for eternity.

Muffin is 17 years old, very full of energy for her age.  Her two daughters "Tasha " and "Ginger" are each 10 years old. Owner pass away.   All are wee wee pad trained if no one is home.  Otherwise they go outside to potty.  They are spayed and have had all vaccinations with prior owners. They lived in a small room and weren't taken on walks so they are not leash trained, but they do follow you very closely.  They were used as breeders, especially the mom.  Have all papers and AKC records.  They have been very neglected in the last 9-10 years.  All of them have the best personality! They stay at the pet grooming store and love people and children and cats and dogs!  They love to all cuddle up on the doggie beds.  They have also been put on a senior dry and wet dog food called Canadae.  They get vitamins we well.  They love to all go to the bark park.  the mommy "Muffin" just cruises around like a social little butterfly. They do not do well without each other however.  Who ever adopts them will have free pet grooming on them for life! Coco just bounces along on her leash because she's tickled about being outside and spending time with a friendly person. She is great with other dogs and adores people. She is at a great age because she will be an easy companion who's not a lot of work but she's still youthful and spunky. She'd do great with just about any family.

Kelly's senior guardian is unable to take care of Kelly any longer and Kelly needs to find a new home.  She is a 10 year old black lab/chow mix.  She has no health issues and is a very sweet dog and an excellent watch dog.  She's great with the grandson but would probably do best with an adult or adults.  She's house trained and will sleep in late if her owner does.  She weighs about 55 or 60 lbs and is very strong.
