Beautiful "Plus Size" Kelly is an 11.5 year old purebred Pembroke Corgi.  As sweet as she is beautiful, Kelly came to HART via the concerned adult daughter and granddaughter of Kelly's Alzheimer's stricken guardian.  Unaware she was grossly over feeding Kelly (who like most dogs couldn't say no), the loving Corgi ballooned to 43 pounds (she should weigh 28-30 pounds).  Fearing her extra weight would dramatically shorten her life, the family appealed to HART to take her in.  Now under veterinarian supervision, she is exercising, eating a restricted veterinarian prescription diet (supplemented with steamed vegetables, vitamins and minerals).  She is already beginning to play with her toys again.  She is an absolute a sweetheart.  She's good with other dogs.  She walks well on a leash.  She is very fond of soft bedding and lots of human attention including "rubby-dubby" cuddles where she can place her head in your lap and be petted, spoken to softly and kissed.  A Corgi lovers dream.  Despite her extra pounds, she is in very good health.  She was housebroken in the home and travels well in the car
Molly is a "people person."  Cute as a button and full of energy and spunk.  Molly is happiest when she can engage her human friends in dog toy play and exercise.  An amazingly youthful 10 year old, Molly is a 12 pound Dachshund Min Pin mix.  She is joyful and quite often full of herself.  Yet when she tires she wants nothing more than cuddles, a soft bed and loads of love, which she returns 10-fold.  Rescued from the Pasadena Humane Society in California with a larger partner dog, HART has come to realize that Molly is very choosey when it comes to dog relationships. Therefore, Molly would benefit from a dog-savvy owner and/or probably do best as an only dog in the home.
Molly is benefiting greatly from her positive reward training.  She is getting along with a great many more dogs now and was a perfect guest at our latest mobile adoption.  She's blossoming!

Leon is a good natured, slightly goofy 9 year old Leonberger mix.  (The Leonberger is one of a dozen breeds recently "inducted" into the AKC registry).  At 70 pounds, Leon is big-boned and on the muscular side.  He is friendly, easy-going and gets along well with other dogs.  He is very friendly with people.  Walks well on a leash, but is not one for long distance or endurance walking.  In fact, Leon is a bit on the lazy side.  While at top form and top speed at the start, his pace slows down rather quickly, thats when he puts on the charm, immediately persuading you to sit in the shade with him for a cuddle or an afternoon nap.  Well-mannered.  Leon is mindful and responsive to instruction. There is no need for sharp words or elevated voices with Leon, he really wants to please his people.  A terrific dog, Leon will make someone a great family companion.
Ashley is a beautiful Sheltie-Cocker Spaniel mix.  She came to HART with her partner dog Molly from the Pasadena Humane Society in California due to the loss of their older guardian.  She is a rather pensive dog, observed on occasion contemplating her surroundings and taking in everything with a great deal of interest.  At first stand-offish and overly opinionated, Ashley has come a long way since joining us.  With positive rewards training, Ashley now warms up to people and enjoys her interactions with them.  A new inductee to the joys of the local dog park, she is very appropriate with off-leash dogs, introducing herself with an excellent attitude.  Ashley is 8 years old; 25 pounds.  She is always patient and loving with volunteers at our mobile adoption.  She enjoys her walks

Sam sits in the same chair he and his guardian shared, hoping she is coming back soon to cuddle with him again.  But, sadly, Sam's guardian is too frail now to care for him, too feeble to pick him up and sit him in their favorite easy chair where they spent hours and hours watching television.  Sam is alone now, cared for temporarily by his guardian's family.  HART is trying desperately to place this sweet loving standard Dachshund in a new home.  He's perfect for a Doxie-lover who would welcome a "TV watching pal," enjoy leash walks and be mindful of his "overeating" tendencies.  Sam is about 10 years old.  He weighs 23 pounds.  He is good with other dogs and tolerant of older children.  A "low maintenance" dog, Sam loves his naps.   And is used to having access to a doggy door.  Please contact HART at 805/677-5541 for further information.

Sunshine and Annie are a charming trio of lovable, sweet spayed female dogs.  The best of friends, they love people, are good with other dogs and lived with cats.  Since taking them in a couple of months ago, after the deaths of their guardians, HART is pleased to report they are blossoming under our care and more than ready to be transferred to loving permanent families, either individually or together.

Sunshine, at 9 years old, is the "middle kid" most likely an American Eskimo mix.  She is active, happy and a "bit of a clown".  While aloof at first, it doesn't take long for her to warm up to the people she gets to know; anticipating their movements and treating them to a ritual greeting of "dancing in place", playful barks and springs on her feet of joyfulness.  A vocal dog (the American Eskimo heritage), Sunshine is also mindful of firm reprimands and has learned when scolded to settle down nicely.  She likes to pal around with Annie, the oldest of the trio, but will transfer her friendship to another dog just as easily.  Once she has won you over (or vice versa) she will follow you from room to room until she tires, coming to rest at your feet, at your side or on a comfy dog bed.  Like Stormy and Annie, Sunshine was housebroken in her home, using a doggie door leading to a secured backyard.  She is about 22 pounds.

Annie is adorable.  At the "young at HART" age of 12, this Beagle Cocker mix exhibits a great deal of patience for her younger pals and other dogs.  in fact, she watches over Sunshine with the loving eye of a dear old friend.  Never critical, she is however "discerning."  Particularly when it comes to sharing favorite toys or who is on the softer side of the bed she and Sunshine (or another dog) might share.  Ideally, we'd love to place Sunshine and Annie together.  If we can't, we believe Annie would benefit in a household with another "senior peer" who also enjoys slow walks on a leash, lots of pets, hugs and cuddles, good food, and a number of naps during the day.  Annie is about 25 pounds.  Like her "sisters" she was housebroken in the home, using a doggie door leading to a secured backyard.  Annie, however, was trained to wee-wee pads and in all likelihood could adjust to them once again.

Tiki is a 6 pound spayed female Pomeranian with a "Teddy bear face" and a wonderful disposition.  A cuddler.  A kisser.  She'll hop right into your arms, snuggle on your lap and nuzzle your neck. And if, for some reason you are just a little too slow in paying attention to her, she'll sit at your feet, raise a tiny front paw and smile at you.  Pomeranian lovers take note!  This young at heart 12 year old is amazing. Despite the horror of being dumped by her elderly owner at a crowded municipal animal control, she retained her optimistic outlook. HART has taken care of all her veterinarian medical needs, including a much needed spay. (According to our veterinarian she was a Mom many times over).  it's time for Tiki to spend the remainder of her life surrounded by Pommy love and kisses.

Sylvie is a 6 pound spayed female mini-doxie with so much spunk and spirit you'd never guess she is 10+ years old.  Recently rescued from an overcrowded municipal animal shelter, Sylvie was so determined to attract attention she stood confidently at the front of the cage, her tapered Doxie nose between bars, wagging her tiny tail behind her.  She certainly won our "HART's" and we know she'll win yours. After much needed vet care Sylvie is more than ready for her new home.  She walks well on a leash. Loves to be carried.  Gets along well with other small dogs.  And will easily fit into a doxie loving lap or pooch pouch.  Please, help us find Sylvie the perfect home! She deserves it!

Tiger is beautiful, tiny (5 pounds) chihuahua that has been to hell and back.   Recently rescued from a life as backyard a breeder.  Shy, anxious and defensive, Tiger nonetheless responds well to patient handling and fast food burger “bribes”.  While Tiger lived with other dogs he will need a lot of personal attention to gain his trust and socialize him. He will bite. He should not be placed in a home with children.  Should you have the time, knowledge and a heart big enough to help Tiger trust in humans again, please contact us by e-mail or telephone.   Contact information: 805/677/5541 or petbusy@aol.com

Sunny is a 10 year old neutered male corgi mix.  With his long body and short legs and his adorable black and white coat he is a good looking little guy.  These photos were taken shortly after his rescue from Lancaster Shelter, so we don't know too much about him yet.  He did get along well with his shelter run mate, a much younger dog.  Sunny is about 25 pounds.  Seems to have a corgi active personality. His guardian passed away in the home and no next of kin could be found.  We'll keep you posted as we get to know this handsome fella better.

Tigger and Missy are a delightful pair.  Bonded, loving, comical and charming, HART was called to rescue them after their 91 year old guardian and her 70 year old daughter had become too ill and frail to care for them.  We are guessing that Missy, 12, (yellow coat) is Beagle-mix and Tigger, a terrier-mix.  Both are spayed and in good health.  A charming pair with loads of love to give, they are a "hoot" to walk together - with Tigger on the look out for squirrels and Missy eager to stop and smell the roses.  They are good with other dogs.  Ride well in the car and housebroken on a schedule.  Definitely worthy dogs who deserve a chance.
